Ocean Trash Recycle Shack
Airlie Beach, Queensland, AUSTRALIA
Active groups/ individuals involved:
Libby Edge (Founder), and Eco Barge Clean Seas volunteers
Every year, the volunteers from Eco Barge Clean Seas collect tonnes of waste plastics from the stunning Whitsunday lslands using their mobile barge and people power. Since 2009, they have removed 174 Tonnes of marine debris, 80% of which is plastic. The problem is all this material is then sent to landfill.
To recycle and reuse as much of the marine debris as possible to significantly reduce the amount of litter going into landfill. Turning waste into a resource.
